In the mid-’80s, we saw the rise of buying groups. But over the last 20-years, there has been more consolidation by Private Equity companies in the heavy-duty parts and service industry and that is very different from the buying group model.

If you listen to the big aftermarket parts distributors you hear them talk about all the great things they are doing for the heavy-duty parts industry.

But is consolidation or “rollups” good for the industry, and are parts stores, repair shops, and mobile repair the only ones being consolidated?
