My name is Jamie Irvine and this is my BLOG focused on serving the heavy-duty parts industry. This blog is a companion to my industry-leading podcast called The Heavy-Duty Parts Report where my guests and I provide expert advice about the heavy-duty parts you need to buy to keep your trucks and trailers rolling, lower your cost-per-mile, and keep you informed about what’s happening in the industry.
I wanted to start by providing you with my background as a way of introducing myself, so here is my story.
My Background
I grew up in New Brunswick, Canada, spent 19 years in Vancouver, British Columbia (home of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games) and now I live outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
My Career
As a young teenager, I worked in farming each year from the age of 13, later I had three part-time jobs while finishing high school. At one point I held these three jobs concurrently. They included working at a grocery store, a mechanic shop, and a computer repair company. After graduation and moving to Vancouver, I held a few part-time jobs like window cleaning and pressure washing, and then I accepted my first full-time job in men’s fashion at an upscale retail store in North Vancouver.
The next year an opportunity to take an entry-level position at a heavy-duty parts remanufacturer became available and I was accepted by ownership only after weeks of relentlessly pursuing the position. I worked for this company for nearly 10 years, starting as a shop laborer, eventually becoming the Operations Manager, and ending my time with this remanufacturer as the National Account Manager.
In 2007, I continued on in sales in the heavy-duty parts industry and worked for 2 more years for a National Distributor as a Sales Account Manager.
Becoming an Entrepreneur
It was 2009 and the economy was crashing, unemployment was skyrocketing, people all over the world were losing their homes and businesses were closing their doors. As a salesperson, I had done very well and was going to receive a $20,000.00 bonus check for the work I had done in 2008. This was the opportunity I had been working so hard to achieve. I took his bonus check, gave my notice, and started my first business with my wife and longtime friend, co-worker, and business partner.
Synspire Management Group Inc | 2009 – 2010
This business was a consulting firm that specialized in Sales, Marketing, and Personality Assessment in partnership with Concord Consulting, operated for one year, and ultimately failed.
Irvine Sales & Service (The Contracting Business) | 2009 – 2016
This business was started with $700.00, built up to a 6-figure business, and was sold 6 years later and merged with Pure Pressure.
Pure Pressure | 2016 – Present
The merger of my contracting business with Pure Pressure has been a wonderful success. We doubled the size of the company with the merger and had four consecutive record years in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. This business operates every day without my direct involvement in day-to-day operations which allowed my family to move a 1000 KMS away and enjoy life with our extended family. Building a business that works in this capacity has been a dream of mine. My wife still works for Pure Pressure and the business still operates remotely and independently of me.
Returning to the Heavy-Duty Parts Industry
On September 6, 2016, I reignited my sales career in the heavy-duty parts industry when I accepted a position with Artic Truck Parts & Service as a Sales Account Manager. I spent 3 wonderful years with this company.
During my time at Artic Truck Parts & Service, I launched an independent podcast called The Heavy-Duty Parts Report on June 1st, 2019. This podcast led me to make a decision to return to the work of an entrepreneur.
On January 1st, 2020, I became an independent consultant and I partnered with Tyler Robertson and Diesel Laptops and have worked with many other heavy-duty parts companies on a wide range of projects.
