You are listening to The Heavy-Duty Parts Report. I’m your host, Jamie Irvine. And this is the show where you get expert advice about heavy-duty parts that keeps trucks and trailers on the road longer while lowering cost-per-mile. My name is Jamie Irvine. I’m the host of The Heavy-Duty Parts Report. We are here, live at TMC and it is so fantastic to be back. At the show this year, TMC’s all about the electrification of the trucking industry and giving commercial fleet support. I’ve got Tyler Robertson’s CEO of Diesel Laptops here with me today. Tyler, we get to see each other after two long years of doing everything virtual.
You know, this is really great to have everybody back again. The traffic’s been amazing, like you said, it’s all about electrification of vehicles. There’s a lot of those here. I see robots driving trucks, technology making its impact everywhere. Truly a great time to be in our industry and with all the executives and business leaders in our industry, all under one roof. It’s an amazing thing to be able to do again.
And Diesel Laptops has made huge strides in the last couple years in your overall support of commercial fleets and repair technicians. I think of the four buckets, Diagnostics, Training, Diesel Repair, and Diesel Parts information. What are you most excited about to share with people here today at the booth?
Yeah, so it’s really the evolution. I remember coming to show seven years ago and we were really like pulling people in a little 10 x 10 booth in the corner trying to get traffic. And I can tell you, the conversations are different today. It’s not about just diagnostics. It’s about getting the data off the vehicles and using that data to make better business decisions, improve your efficiency, improve uptime, connect it to parts, connected to what do we train them on? Well, let’s look at the data analytics to figure out what to train them on. So yeah, it’s just a great evolving thing happening here at Diesel Laptops. Customers are responding and we’re in the forefront of it. So we’re pretty excited.
Well, this is The Heavy-Duty Parts Report after all. And I’ve been very honored to be involved in the Diesel Parts part of your business. And I’ve just loved seeing the way this platform has evolved. It is there to help people, whether you’re a parts technician or repair technician, what has been the overall reaction of people at the booth when they get to see a live demo of Diesel Parts?
Yeah. How the hell did you guys do that? That is usually the question we get and it’s never been done before. Like literally looking up parts without a VIN, without a serial number. And we made all this stuff free. Like that’s the crazy thing about it. But there’s a bigger thing here. And if we can help people find the parts they need quicker, man, that just saves them days or saves them tens of thousands or thousands of dollars. So it’s all about solving the efficiency problem and the truck repair process. And that’s our focus now, 100%, we’re all in on it.
We’re gonna take a quick break. We’ll be right back. Don’t have a heavy-duty part number and need to look up a part? Last time people saw Tyler Robertson on the podcast was when you guest hosted at HDAW for me. So thank you for doing that. I want to tell the audience a funny story. So two years ago we were at TMC Atlanta, and I was working the booth. I was showing some customers, Diesel Parts. And there was a question about diagnostics I couldn’t answer. So I asked you over Tyler, you answered the question, then you had to leave and we didn’t get to say goodbye. The whole world shut down. And two years later, this is the first time we’ve been together in person. I didn’t even get to say hello to you, but what happened yesterday? Because it is really funny. Yeah.
I think we just kind of started where we left off. It was just like, boom, boom, boom, boom. Here let’s go. So, but I think that goes back to technology though, too. Like we’ve been doing Zoom sessions. I feel like I still know you. I feel like I didn’t feel like two years. I felt like I’ve seen you and worked with you and we do work together obviously. So glad again, to be back under one roof, seeing people in person and being able to do events like this.
Right. And we’re looking forward to continuing to serve the trucking industry. My name is Jamie Irvine. I’m the host of The Heavy-Duty Parts Report. We’re with CEO of Diesel Laptops, Tyler Robertson, if you haven’t become a TMC member, please think about doing so, it’s a great event and it’s a great council to be a part of, no matter what level of the trucking industry you’re in. If you had any kind of parting words for someone, if they’re sitting on the fence about being a TMC member, what would you say?
Yeah, I’ve seen so many people here with the badges that say first time attendee. And I think they’re learning a lot and realizing how important this organization is. And I think a lot of people don’t understand recommended practices are built at TMC. So the things you do in your shops today are because of the people here putting those together. So get involved, you can have impact on your industry. And that’s where it happens at TMC.
