As technology continues to advance, our trucking needs do as well. In the past, finding the right parts when you needed them could be a difficult, and stressful situation. However, Diesel Parts is a new parts platform that is going to completely change the way we buy parts, for the better.
Recently we interviewed Tyler Robertson, the CEO of Diesel Laptops
A Need in the Truck Repair Industry
Now, Diesel Laptops is a leader when it comes to the Diagnostic tool business. However, they saw a need in the industry that needed to be filled, and they took this upon themselves to take care of it. The need was that people wanted a parts cross-reference tool to assist them in the process of buying heavy-duty parts. It all started with one parts guy hearing from customers about this area that was an open market, and that is all that was needed to make Diesel Laptops tackle that problem.
Initially, they created TruckPartsCross.com, TruckPartsLookUp.com, and TruckPartsPremium.com. However, very soon these three websites are going to be merged into just one, called Diesel Parts. What made them consolidate these into one platform?
Well, these websites were built one-by-one to solve more and more unique problems in the industry. In fact, they all work alongside each other to solve multiple problems. The problem was it was a little confusing for people with the three completely different platforms. That is what the new platform fixes. Now, everything is clearer and is conveniently in one place.
A Parts Lookup Tool
Diesel Parts all started with a cross-reference tool. But if you don’t have the part number you’re looking for to cross. This was greatly taken into mind and is solved with this new platform, which is about to go live. There are three different ways you can identify the parts you need. What are these?
Truck parts lookup (year-make-model), by component, and by measurements. With these three options, you are able to search for parts regardless of the information you have.
They have even added some new features on Diesel Parts, tell me more about the VIN decoder?
At the time mark 11:14, Tyler said this about this new feature, the VIN decoder:
“It was really important for us to build a VIN decoder. At the end of the day, everything starts with the VIN… If you can give people a really good VIN decoder, they can just pop their VIN in, and then tell them what repair information, or what parts go on those things. It is a really crucial piece of the puzzle that’s needed for a lot of people to figure out which direction to even start going in.”
Advanced Tools
Diesel Parts has advanced tools, which used to be called TruckPartsPremium. But there is something new up there called ‘What Does It Fit?’. How does this new feature help?
Tyler said,
“I think that this is a huge game-changer. (As a parts manager) you would constantly have that situation where a part would be on your shelf, and you don’t know how it got there. You can’t return it, and you don’t even know what it fits. With ‘What Does It Fit’ you can take an OEM of an aftermarket part number, and our system will run that part number across our existing database, of all these, exploded views, and application lookups. And then come back to you and tells you everywhere that part fits.”
New and Recycled Parts
On the Diesel Parts platform, you can also buy recycled engines and transmissions as well. It is a partnership with TruckPartsInventory.com. With this added section, it solved people’s needs when it comes to looking for all parts, all withing this one-stop-shop.
Diesel Laptops is working hard to improve the way people repair trucks. Repair, diagnostic, training, and shop management software should be in one place to solve all problems. By doing this simplifies and speeds up the whole process. Making everyone’s lives easier.
